The first piece of legislative that President Obama signed was the Lily Ledbetter Act. This act makes it easier to get the pay that you deserve despite your age, race or gender. This act makes it completely illegal to pay someone less money for doing the same exact job as someone else because of their race, their gender, or their age.
ReplyDeleteThe bill I chose is the DTV delay act. This bill was voted on yesterday. It was passed that they will delay the transition from analog to digital television until June 12. The senate has already approved the bill, and now the act is being sent to the president, and is now waiting for the president to sign it.

DTV
ReplyDeleteDigital Television Transition DTV plan was introduced on January 29,2009 and it became a public law in February 11,2009. This bill was introduced so that televisions with antennas could switch in to analog boxes. Such as having dish network or cable. They want to get rid of antennas by replacing them. This became a public law and its affect is on June 12,2009.The original date was on February 17,2009 and it was postponed for June 12,2009 for the need of money. But since the Stimulus package arrived, then it will take effect on June.
From looking at current legislation, I picked bill H.R.1106: The Helping Families Save Their Homes Act (homeowner rescue bill. The bill will prevent mortgage foreclosures and enhance mortgage credit availability. In the legislative process, the bill was referred to the Senate committee on March 11, 2009. It has currently been read twice and referred to the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs.
ReplyDeleteI chose the Digital Television Delay Act.
ReplyDeleteTV stations were scheduled to switch programming to a new Digital Programming on February 17. But instead, because of this act, the date has been pushed back until June 12.
The senate has approved the bill and is waiting on the president to sign it.
The Dignified Treatment of Wounded Warriors Act that Obama passed in 2007 protected Veterans that were harmed by Bush's policies. This prevented the mistreatment of veterans who performed their duties to the service.

Gas Emission
H.R.7146 is a bill enforcing to distribute emission allowances under a domestic climate policy to facilities in certain domestic energy-intensive industrial sectors to prevent an increase in greenhouse gas emissions by manufacturing facilities located in countries without commensurate greenhouse gas regulation, and for other purposes. The last major action was on 9/26/08 and it was referred to the Subcommittee.
I chose the H.R. 1586. Which is basically, Bonus tax bill, impose 90% tax on TARP bonuses.
ReplyDeleteIt imposes an additional income tax on bonuses paid or given to employees and some former employees.
Sets rate of such tax at ninety percent of lesser of:(1)the bonus amounts paid, or(2) the amount taxpayer's adjusted gross income exceeding $250,000.Exempts any employee who irrevocably returns a bonus payment before close of the taxable year in which the payment is due.

Obama has signed a bill that will protect 2 million acres of U.S. wilderness. Obama said the laws is one of the most important in decades. The law is a collection of 170 separate measures witch is one of the largest expansion in wilderness protection in a quarter century. This law also provides paralysis research and care for the disabled.
ReplyDeleteThe bill i chose was the H.R. 1256 act. This bill talks about how it dedicates itself to protect the health of the public. It provides the food and drug administration with certain regulation to tobacco products.
ReplyDeleteThis bill also regulates househould smoking to minimize the risk of damage by second hand smoke. It was just read for the first time on april 3rd. It's only been a month since it was first proposed. Nothing has happend to this bill yet, but i wish that it will further into its depths because i have strong feelings to this.
I stareted with the white house link and led myself to the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. This was meant to make it easier for people to get the pay they deserve regardless of age, race or gender.Surrounded by leaders. the speaer Nancy Pelose and scretary of state hilar clintona and with the new law's ma,esale, Lily Ledbetter,at his side, President Obama signed into law a powerful tool to fight discrimination.
ReplyDeleteThe U.S. senate approved the Children’s Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2009.After signing it into law,it will continue to help children and coverage six to seven million children and increase that coverage to four million more.Later on it will go to the house so they can sign it.soon it will take an affect very soon.
ReplyDeleteI chose the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, also known as (ARRA). Yesterday, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 passed through conference and is now on its way back to the House and Senate for full votes. The economic recovery package is essential for our nation's economy, for its infrastructure, and for our energy, health, and education needs and now it's the law. After months of planning and weeks of negotiation, President Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act today in Denver, CO. "What I am signing is a balanced plan with a mix of tax cuts and investments. It is a plan that’s been put together without earmarks or the usual pork barrel spending. And it is a plan that will be implemented with an unprecedented level of transparency and accountability," President Obama said before signing the bill into law. "And we expect you, the American people, to hold us accountable for the results. That is why we have created Recovery.gov – so every American can go online and see how their money is being spent." I think what Obama is going is really noble, letting everyone go online to see what the money is being used for.
ReplyDeletePresident Obama signed the Children's Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act (CHIP) Feb. 4, 2009 , which renews and expands the plan from 7 million children affected to 11 million.
ReplyDelete"This is only the first step," he said. "As I see it, providing coverage for 11 million children is a down payment on my commitment to cover every single American."
I'am glad because he is helping children that cant/afford to get health insurance. Now that he signed the bill more people could now get health insurance.Like he said he now could help 11 million children in America.

I choose bill H.RES.1421. This is a bill that is commemorating The 25th anniversary of the 1983 terrorist bombing of a Marine Corps base in Beirut, Lebanon which killed 241 American servicemen. As of now the bill has passed in the house and is on motion to suspend the rules and agree to the resolution. Voted 414-0.
Im doing the Children’s Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2009. Once it is made into a law, this legislation will continue coverage for six to seven million children and increase that coverage to four million more. It has currently already been passed by the U.S senate, and need the presidents aproval.

The dtv delay is really been made more of a deal of then it should be, its not really much of no ones interest those who have cable will just be fine, in fact its just gonna make it harder for those that don't because they will have to buy one of the dtv boxes for each tv in their house.Right now the bill has been passed to delay it until June they're just waiting on the president to sign in to make it into a law. With this economy i don't think its helping improve no ones situation.
