Re: Block 4 April 3rd Legislation

Choose from one of the following sites to find legislation:
White House
Senate
House of Representatives

Look for current legislation, pick one bill, explain what it is and where it is in the legislative process. Make your explanation clear and concise and in one paragraph and post as a comment before the class period is over.

If you finish early, either make up past work for the virtual stock exchange or go to the virtual stock exchange to check how your stocks are doing.

  1. This is the SCHIP legislation, On January 29th, the U.S. Senate approved the Children’s Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2009, better known as the State Children's Health Insurance Program or SCHIP. Once signed into law, this legislation will continue coverage for six to seven million children and increase that coverage to four million more.

  4. The Digital Television Transition DTV ( Digital Television Transition) was the plan I chose. The plan was introduced on January 29,2009. But it became a public law in February 11, 2009. This bill made it so televisions with antennas could switch in to analog boxes such as having satellite dish or cable. They want to get rid of antennas by replacing them.

  5. The first piece of legislative that President Obama signed was the Lily Led better Act.the act makes it easier to get the payed what you should get paid despite your age race or even gender. The act makes it illegal to pay someone less money for doing the same exact job as someone else. especially because of their race, gender or their age.totally unfair to get paid less than others because your boss is playing favorites.

  6. The Bill I chose was : To protect the public health by providing the Food and Drug Administration with certain authority to regulate tobacco products.

It's trying to protect the FDA by regulating tobacco products. Currently this bill has been read by the Senate once. Apart of the bill states:
"Defines a tobacco product as any product made or derived from tobacco that is intended for human consumption. Prohibits a tobacco product from being marketed in combination with any other article or product regulated under FFDCA. Requires the Secretary to regulate tobacco products. Excludes from FDA authority: (1) the tobacco leaf that is not in the possession of a tobacco product manufacturer; (2) the producers of the tobacco leaf, unless the producer is also a manufacturer; and (3) tobacco farms."

  7. I choose the bill called H.R.1256 from the senate link. It is presented to protect the public health by giving Food and Drug Administration authority to regulate tobacco products. The bill is still in the house because it prefix is H.R. If this law is passed, it will regulate all the ingredients, a description of the content, delivery, and form of nicotine in each product which is very harmful to its consumers. If the company does not meet its requirement, the government can ban its products. I think this is a good bill and it should be the law because tobacco affect its consumers' health, both physically and mentally.

  12. The bill I chose is the Revolutionary War and War of 1812 Battlefield Protection Act, which designates certain former war zones, as well as several other areas, in several states (mostly Western) as wilderness. It also allows the Secretary of the Interior to accept any grazing lease for commercial grazing in certain areas, and allows several laboratories and conservation centers to be built in several "wilderness" areas. Furthermore, it establishes the National Landscape Conservation System to "conserve, protect, and restore certain landscapes that have outstanding cultural, ecological, and scientific values..."
This bill was passed by the Senate March 19th, 2009, and no amendments to it have been made since.

  14. DTV DELAY ACT

They want to extended the day of when they want to switch over all t.v.s to DTV. Those who have antennas need to get a DTV converter box or switch over to cable or satellite. They are trying to send out more coupons for the box so it can be affordable. They are limiting the coupons 1 per house. This act has already been signed.

  18. I chose document H.R.985 which has to do with media "free flow" of info and federally disclosed about news linked individuals of the media.
The document has been introduced in house on 2/11/09, reported to the committee on 3/30/2009, passed in House on 3/31/2009, and referred to The Senate on 4/1/09 and read twice since its been there.

I think the media is a increasingly interesting topic of the times because it is changing all the time like our economy of today.

  21. I choose SCHIP legislation that was introduced in the House on January 13,2009 and became a pubic law on February 4, 2009.It is known as Children's Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2009. The amendments made by this Act effective on April 1, 2009, regardless of whether final regulations have been promulgated to carry them out.It focused on financing, reducing barriers to providing premium assistance, making heath care insurance more affordable for children, and improving the access to heath care benefit for children. This positive bill looks like an open door to all children have opportunities to get heath care even they are in low-income families. This is really the thing that the government under Bush administration ignored and didn't do anything.
